This is an article about the longest and highest suspension bridges in Nepal. These are the cool swaying suspension bridges made of steel cables that you see all over Nepal. Nepali style suspension bridges are always kind of fun when you come across one on a trek, but these ones take things to a whole new level.
I decided to go and visit these when I was in Nepal.
A Bit About How to Get to Them
The highest suspension bridge in Nepal is the Kushma Bungy Footbridge. There are offers all over Pokhara to bungy from this footbridge, so you can go and bungy jump off the highest footbridge in Nepal on a day trip from Pokhara. The Kushma Bungy Footbridge is also close to the longest bridge in Nepal, which is about 30 mins drive to the West.
If you’re not doing a bungy jump, you can visit both of these bridges from Pokhara. The best thing is probably to stop off on the way back from the Annapurna circuit or any other trek in the western part of the Annapurnas. Otherwise, you can visit on a day trip from Pokhara if you’ve got transport.
The bridges are in Kushma and Baglung, which are about 1.5 and 2 hours west of Pokhara.
The Longest Suspension Bridge in Nepal
The longest suspension bridge in Nepal is the Gandaki Golden Footbridge in Baglung, which is 567m (1,860ft) long and 122m (400ft) high.
Very long…….
It’s located right in the south part of Baglung, between the Pushpalal Highway on one side of the river and a settlement called Nuwara on the other side of the river. There isn’t much else to say about it, other than it’s ridiculously long for a cable footbridge. Go and check it out.
It’s also ridiculously high.
Here’s some more info and some great pictures of the Gandaki Golden Footbridge.
The Highest Suspension Bridge in Nepal
The highest suspension bridge in Nepal is the Kushma Bungy Footbridge, in the village of Kushma. The bridge is 200m (660 ft) high and 490 m long.
Obviously, you can bungy jump off it if you want. I’ve bungeed off 100m, but it’d be good to have a go at this if I get the chance.
I actually just walked past the Kushma Bungy Footbridge. I’d just come across another massive bridge down the road, and I didn’t feel the need. I didn’t realise at the time that it was the highest bridge in Nepal. Otherwise, I’d have gone on just to check it out.
More info and some more good pictures on the Kushma Bungy Footbridge here.
The Other Bridges in Kushma
Another thing to know is that the village of Kushma has a whole bunch of these epic bridges. It’s located next to a big gorge with big settlements on the other side of the gorge that need access to Kushma.
I came over on a trek from the Panchase area, and I crossed over the Khareya Giyadi Bridge. I haven’t been able to find out what height it was, but this was also ridiculously high. I’d guess it’s about 150 m. Between the Khareya Giyadi Bridge and the Kushma Bungy Bridge, there are the Kushma Giyadi Bridge, the Kushma Mudikuwa Bridge and the Kushma Balewa Bridge. They’re all similarly massive.
Here’s a video of someone driving a scooter across the Kushma Giyadi Bridge – here.
